Painting Snow Process Art

Painting Snow Process Art

We have been very lucky to have another snowfall! I absolutely love the excitement! How it brings people together! The snow angels, sledging snowmen and school closures! Yipeee! It has been so cold so I decided to bring a pile of snow inside for the children to paint! Its something all 3 of them loved getting involved in and it was so much fun to watch them!

You can enjoy this activity indoors and out. With the twins being full of cold I wanted to keep them inside in the warm.

Grab a tray. Tuff Trays are fabulous for allowing a few children to join in together. You could use welly trays, planting trays, dinner serving trays - anything you can get your hands on.

Initially it was Neve playing on her own before her brothers woke from their midday nap and joined her. I stood and observes her painting a new texture. She started to dig her brushes into the snow. She was away talking to herself. She began to dig dens for woodland animals - it was adorable!

I love activities like this - to me it was painting snow, but to a child the imagination kicks in and their thoughts take them to so many wonderful places.

I offered 3 different brushes. Different sizes and different colours. They absolutely loved it! Over an hour they were scooping up paint and making marks in the snow. They would occasionally reach into the snow and feel the chill with their hands.

This activity kept them all entertained for an hour! Once the paint off the plate ran out for the 6th time I decided to offer the paint pots to Neve to squirted the paint all over the snow.

The boys were fascinated by this and used their brushes to blend the colours together. You can see from this picture how the colour of the paint blends down into the snow.

How pretty does it look!?

Lets take a took at this activity in action:

Me and Neve finished off by making rainbow snowballs/unicorn poo. We stood on the step and threw them up the garden as far as we could.

Such a great activity! Have you ever painted snow before?
