Nature Mandalas Outdoor Art

We have been busy creating Nature Mandalas out in the garden. You may have seen a recent post from us where we went on a woodland walk and set about collecting as many different coloured flowers as we could. We brought the pretty set of wild flowers home and together we did some colour matching using chalk out in the garden.

Once we had done that I recalled a lovely activity I had seen for the Nurture Store - making Nature Mandalas so I started creating:

I began by drawing some patterns on the floor. Little N wasn't interested at this stage. She took some chalk and off she went doodling all over the patio. Once I had done a couple of patterns I started using the flowers we had collected on the woodland walk:

We also had a walk around the garden an had a look at what other flowers we could add to the collection.

Little N then began to collect some flowers and add them to her drawings! She had observed me and was making her very own Nature Mandala too!!
This was great fun!
Nature Mandalas allow opportunity to teach:

- Colours
- Patterns
- Symmetry
- Fractions

So next time you have the above concepts to teach, begin by a woodland walk. Collect flowers together and enjoy a lesson outdoors! Take them away from the classroom and let the great outdoors be your classroom instead!
Enjoy creating, making and learning!!
