We have been in our element collecting Nature items over the last few weeks. Conkers, Pine Cones, Acorns and Fairy Hats! So many lovely Nature Treasures! Today we Neve got crafty with the fairy hats and created the most beautiful Fairy Hat Autumn Tree Canvas Craft.
You will need:
Twigs
Glue
Paint Brush
PVA Glue
If I could have located my glue gun, I would have used it to attach the twigs onto the canvas. PVA glue worked a treat but we had to wait longer for it to dry. If PVA glue is all you have that is fine, just be prepared to do the craft in stages.
We began by adding plenty of glue to the centre of the canvas and attaching some twigs we had collected on a walk that day. The sticks were creating the trunk of the tree. They fanned out to create the tree top, ready to scatter all the 'fairy hats'.
Neve dipped the fairy hats into the glue before securing them down onto the canvas. She really enjoyed doing this. I had poured glue out into a small open bowl to make the dipping easy.
You may want to make sure the surface underneath is fully protected as every now and then there was a glue trail that planted itself on the table.
You could see the tree forming beautifully. Once she had finished sticking them down we left it to dry over night before returning to it late afternoon the next day.
Although we had to do the craft in stages, I found this to work better. Neve returned back each time raring to go. If I had opted to use the glue gun, Neve wouldn't have been able to access the craft fully, as I would have needed to use the gun itself because of the temperatures reached.
It was time to start painting the 'fairy hats'. She used acrylic paints and she didn't wash the brush once. This was perfect as it created lots of different shades of Autumn colours.
I purchased these paints 4 years ago. The colours are so vibrant and the smallest amount goes such a long way. 4 years on and we have used them countless times and the tubes are still pretty full.
I have used lots of brands over the years and now I have found these I shall be sticking to them.
The craft is simply beautiful. A stunning Autumn masterpiece, created by a 5 year old! We sat and talked about all sorts while she engaged in this activity. That is one thing I adore about crafts and activities. When you sit alongside a child their mind is bursting with things to share with you.

I adore the craft that much I have taken down a canvas I had up in my living room to replace it with this. Neve was bursting with pride when she came down stairs in the morning to see it hanging up on the wall.
It's amazing what you can create with bits and bobs you find out and about on a walk outdoors.
