Well it sure is super cold out there! Christmas seemed to come and go in the blink of an eye. We loved all our Christmas Crafting but now our attention has turned to Winter.
I couldn't let the season pass without some Winter themed Shaving Cream sensory play. We love this activity and we do it on a regular basis. Here are some of our other alternatives to this activity -
If you follow us over on Instagram you will know we are always out and about, doing something together as a family. If we're not out and about we are crafting and getting messy.
Adding to the mix of our previous sensory foam posts is this fabulous activity. It is important to keep close observation on the children whilst enjoying activities like this. Shaving cream is not edible so you will need to make sure the children who are taking part are suitable to fully understand to not put it in their mouths. Also children with sensitive skin may have to enjoy an alternative activity as shaving cream could irritate the skin. Children can use alternative items to draw in the paint such as a twig/paint brush/kebab stick/straw etc - to avoid contact with their skin.
You will need:
Paints
Start by filling your tray with shaving foam. This is something your children may enjoy helping with, depending on their fine motor strength and control.
My daughter has sensitive skin so I have to be careful about what foam I use. I find the Aveeno Sensitive Shaving Gel (See it on Amazon here - UK / US) to work a treat! You may need to use your hand/a wooden spoon/ruler to spread it out flat. Squirt lots of lovely paint into the foam and add your glitter if you wish.

When presenting the children with activities like this always have an alternative method to mark make. My daughter will eventually start creating marks with her hands but initially she likes to explore the texture and make marks using - a stick for example.
I love these Snowflake themed wands that would compliment this activity beautiful on Amazon - UK / US. Remember to select materials that wont absorb the shaving foam and paint.
Using the end of your stick/pointer, drag it through the shaving foam and watch beautiful swirls appear before your eyes!! Slow and steady is key initially. The more you drag your finger or pointer through the foam - the more the colours will mix together.

To save your art, you can lay a piece of white paper over the shaving cream and gently patches it. Lift it up and wipe off the excess shaving cream. Let dry and hang up!
