Carve Free Neon Painted Pumpkins

Carve Free Neon Painted Pumpkins

We've had a lovely day today. Autumn sunshine was a perfect invitation to head outdoors. We went out to the country park. The River Severn has bursts it's banks pretty badly so it was a real eye opener seeing that today. After 4 hours out and about in the autumnal sunshine we came back home. The pumpkins were all sitting on the shelf - waiting to be carved. I set this activity up for my daughter. Well I say set up - there is very little set up needed for these painted pumpkins. They're a great carve free alternative! They look incredible and it really is mesmerising watching the paint marble together.

Halloween Fun For Families with Toddlers and Preschoolers

Halloween Fun For Families with Toddlers and Preschoolers

Lots of Halloween fun for families with toddlers and preschoolers.
From creating trick or treat bags, making cards, creating dark dens, exploring sensory bottles, textured play dough, pumpkin carving and party game for all - this post covers it all.

A great way to put smiles on your nearest and dearests faces.
Why not send to your little ones friends houses through the post?

A very simple yet effective craft idea!
Great for little hands.

Little N really enjoyed helping me fill the bags with different candy and sweets.
The children and parents who came trick or treating were so grateful too.

Whether you give them out with your Halloween cards or use them for game prizes, they are a great light hearted touch.

5) Make some Halloween gifts

Its great to give, so whether you decide to buy gifts for Grandparents, Aunties, Uncles, Cousins or Friends they will be appreciated.
Again they could be prizes to be won at your parties

6) Create some free, recycled decorations for your home and garden.

7) Make a Halloween Themed Sensory Box

8) Carve a Pumpkin

Aswel as working with your little ones to help scoop out the insides of the Pumpkins let them create their own faces by using these great stick on face features.
Brilliant for younger children who are too young to carve faces.

9) Create a Pumpkin Seed Sensory Bottle

Create a sensory bottle with the dried out pumpkin seeds for you children to explore after Halloween. Great way for babies access this too.

10) Host a Halloween Party and plan lots of games for your guests, taking into considering ages, making sure you have something for everyone.

Here are some game ideas:
1) Make feely boxes and have your guest work in pairs to guess the contents.
2) Make a dark den full of torches, projectors, flashing LED light up figures etc.
3) Balloon popping using a devils trident (we added a needle to the middle fork) adult supervision.
4) Halloween themed Bingo.
5) Pin the tail on the black cat.
6) Best Carved Pumpkin.
7) Guess that tune.
8) Pictionary on a whiteboard.

11) Introduce a well loved Halloween Story like 'Room on the Broom'

12) Halloween themed Play Dough

Using black food colouring, making some Halloween themed textured play dough, and some themed materials and different textures to encourage imaginative play.

Witches Hats Halloween Activity

Witches Hats Halloween Activity

Witches and Wizard Hat Treats

Although we reside in the second largest city in the UK - We always get super excited on the build up to Halloween! It's getting bigger and bigger over here each year, and its a good excuse to have your friends and family round for Pumpkin Carving, games and food!

Something else we absolutely love doing each year around this time, is Pumpkin Picking in a pick your own field. If this isn't something you have done before - I highly recommend it! So much fun! The children love running wild in the fields and coming back with a pumpkin they have selected themselves is quite fun and special.

Autumn Squirrel Sensory Bin

Autumn Squirrel Sensory Bin

Preschoolers are so inquisitive. They notice the smallest of details. They are interested, eager to learn and they LOVE hands on activities that allow them to explore.

Sensory Bins are always a fun way to introduce new topics and to develop interests. They are a great talking point. You can really learn a lot about your children by taking a step back and watching the way they use the materials and how they interact and play with their peers.

We have created a handful of them now and look forward to making lots more over the coming year.

Halloween Treat Bags

Halloween Treat Bags

This year I decided to create some Halloween treat bags for the guests at our party and the Trick or Treaters who paid us a visit throughout the evening too.

I purchased the bags from Amazon and had been busy buying lots of chocolate, sweeties and little toys for the bags. In addition to this I had also printed off and laminated some Halloween joke cards.

I opened all the bags up on the table and Little N helped select the goodies. She really enjoyed dropping them into the bags and helping to get them all ready.

She enjoyed it more than I anticipated she would actually.

Once they had all the contents inside I folded them over and used tape to keep them shut.

I had been online and selected some Halloween Free Printable Tags for the bags which I printed off and laminated. (I will try to re-find the link for these).

I used tape to stick these down too, they looked very effective on the bags.

In addition to the treat bags, I also made some 'Pumpkin Poop' bags.

I had also found these labels as a free printable.

I purchased bags with a spider web design on Amazon again and filled them with 'cheesy balls' 150g for £1 in the supermarkets.
I used 2 bags to fill 6 smaller treat bags.

I tied the bags shut with food bag ties to help keep the air out and went on to use use black curling ribbon to attach the lables. I cut two slits the width of the ribbon using a crafting knife, I did this on a granite surface. I threaded the ribbon through, tied and curled it. Again they looked effective and brought a smile to the childrens and adults faces.

Next year I plan to do some more Pumpkin Poop along with some more designs.

Here are some Amazon Affiliate links for your convenience.

Painting with Balloons

Painting with Balloons

If you are looking for some new fun Halloween ideas for children - you are in the right place! Today we are going to share with you an Art session we had printing using water balloons.

This was a new activity here at Learning and Exploring through Play. I blew up 4 'water bomb' balloons. They are a perfect size for little hands. I used a tray and created patterns of oranges, yellows, greens and I even added some golden glitter glue.

What a beautiful invitation for play, don't you agree?

Little N used Pumpkin Print outs today.

She dipped the balloon into the paint and began printing right away. The prints looked very effective! When enough paint was on the balloon they created lovely circular patterns.

She really enjoyed dunking the balloon into the colourful paint.
It wasn't long before Little N got some on her hands and then the balloons started getting very slippery to hold. Little N found this very funny. She began painting using her hands too. Again this looked effective, and it was allowing Little N to be creative as she wished. As more and more paint made its way onto Little N's hands it became impossible for her to grasp the balloons in her hand. "Oh dear use fingers" she said. She then rubbed her hands together, spreading out the paint and began hand printing on the pumpkins.

She enjoyed swishing her hands around in the paint, mixing the colours together. She did several sheets of pumpkins pictures. Once she was finished I hung up the paintings to dry.

I will be using the pumpkin paintings Little N has created today to create some homemade Halloween Party Invitations.

Autumn Light Box

Autumn Light Box

I am such a fan of fairy lights! In fact I want to let you into a little secret....

I keep at least one set of fairy lights up in my home all year round!! They make me feel cosy, and their warm white lights give off such a welcoming ambiance! I have a set above my patio doors at the moment. I love having a cup of tea (....or hot chocolate) in the dining room once the little one is tucked away in bed, all the chores are done and I can just have 10 minutes to zone out and chill out!!
The little fairy lights give me that 'peace at last' feeling.
Anyway I am here to share with you another activity we have been enjoying with all the Nature we collected on our Nature Walks over the weekend. We were so happy with how the Nature Jars turned out that I got out the Light Box for Little N.

Seaside Small World Tuff Tray

Seaside Small World Tuff Tray

Today we welcome Clare to Learning and Exploring Through Play. She stops by to share with us the fabulous seaside small world she recently created for her Toddler.

Hello I am Clare and I live in Norfolk. I am a busy working Mother of 5 lovely children. My eldest four are all teenagers now so I know how very quickly they grow up! Our youngest is 2 and a half at the moment, so I am busy making the most of his Toddler years. I know how soon they'll be gone and then who will I play with?

We love messy play and I always have one project or another going on for Roman. From Papier Mache pumpkin costumes to huge elephant sculptures taking over the living room, (my poor husband).

I’ve only very recently discovered the world of Tuff Trays, and I’m now hooked! I have gone completely tuff tray crazy and me and my little boy love it!
